Hey guys! Just your typical sweet tooth here who likes to think she knows a thing or two about all things delectable and delicious.
My name is Sammy Wong, and I am a current Freshman at Linfield College (I am studying Mass Communications and Business). My future plans include working in public relations and finding a job that somehow incorporates not just my love for food, but also my love for people.
I also have large ambitions to master my grandma’s perfect jamming technique, save up for a professional stand mixer, and find the perfect banana bread recipe to last a lifetime.
With all my passions and interests, I consider myself lucky: it just so happens that I live in Portland, Oregon, one of the Foodiest Cities of America. Score!
Put two and two together and you have the perfect recipe for an amazing tour guide, accompanying you on your journey through Portland's sweets scene.
Nothing speaks the language of sweets quite like Lovejoy Bakers does.
Known for its scenery, atmosphere, and of course, delicious food, Lovejoy is any Portlander's go-to when seeking a day filled of self-care and relaxation.
At Lovejoy you can't go wrong with any dessert - no need to choose wisely! Just grab a sweet, make sure to order a cup of coffee as well, and spend a few minutes, maybe even hours, catching up with old friends or just enjoying the view.
What's that saying again? A cupcake a day keeps the doctor away?!
Saint Cupcake Galore would probably concur!
A safe haven for cupcake enthusiasts, Saint Cupcake Galore offers a wide variety in all things petite and sweet! My all-time favorite? I would have to say the classic red velvet. Moist, flavorful, and topped with rich, creamy frosting, the red velvet cupcake is a strong contestant in the running for World's Tastiest Treat.
Maurice is beloved by anyone who enjoys the sweeter things in life.
Describing itself as a "modern pastry luncheonette," Maurice offers a welcoming, homey experience in its aesthetically pleasing, white dining room layout.
Maurice also offers a delicious menu of foods and drinks as well!
My first experience at Maurice was quite memorable, filled with good company, lots of laughs, and great dining!
Where do I even begin explaining the wondrous, magical place of Pearl Bakery?!
I stumbled upon this bakery after a long day at Powell's Book Store. I was in desperate need to sit and give my feet a break, and I honestly wasn't expecting much from this bakery besides a chair and a glass of water. Pearl Bakery is definitely much more than that, and it has become a tradition of mine to stop by any time I'm in the area.
1. Its walnut banana bread is out of this planet.
2. Friendliest employees ever. Period.
3. Just go. Go now, visit Pearl Bakery, and thank me later.
No doubt about it, Portland is a great city. I love how I am constantly discovering new, wonderful places every time I go out.
Nuvrei, recently, was one of those places.
Probably one of the most hip cafes I've been in, Nuvrei offers all sorts of different pastries as well as breakfast and lunch choices.
One of my favorite things about Nuvrei is it serves Heart Coffee, a specialty coffee roasting company based in the city.
Petunia's Pies & Pastries! An adorable location offering everything from cupcakes to whoopee pies, cookies to croissants. My friend and I recently met at Petunia's to catch up...most of the catching up happened sporadically between stuffing our faces with cookies.
Petunia's is a 100% gluten free and vegan baking facility, priding itself on not only catering to food intolerances, but also catering to those who know alternative baking should still taste amazing.
I would recommend Petunia's for anyone with a sweet tooth and an eye for aesthetics.
